An additional gun mount is carried as a firearm in her hands. At base level, the anti-aircraft guns on Edwards' rigging are single-barrel Bofors 40 mm guns, while at kai they change to double-barrel. The coloration of Heywood's rigging also changes from camouflage at base to Measure 22 at kai.

She is named for the captain of the American destroyer USS Reuben James, the first American vessel sunk during World War II. After the war, the Edwards was transferred to the new Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, where she served under the name Ariake until being decommissioned in 1974 and scrapped in 1976.
