She has a tomboyish streak, and a personality that switches rapidly between eager and hyper to fatalistic or depressed whenever things go badly.
The real-life Miyuki was sunk after a collision with Inazuma (Kancolle)| in June 1934. This made her the only ship of her class not to go into World War II and remains the only Japanese destroyer accidentally sunk by another Japanese destroyer. This is referenced in her sinking line, "Sorry... I'm going ahead.... see you later...". She is sometimes shown colliding with Inazuma or as a ghost in fanworks because of this.
